MSF works to control measles epidemic in Chad: Part II
Areas of Chad, including the capital N'Djamena and the city of Am Timan, are at the heart of a measles epidemic that has been raging for a year and continues to gain intensity. In a bid to control it, an emergency team of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) vaccinated 107,000 children in Am Timan.
In the capital, N'Djamena, MSF transformed its former therapeutic nutritional center, which were set up in July 2018, into a unit dedicated to hospital care for children affected by measles. Support for the city's health structures has progressively expanded, with 21 health centers currently supported by MSF in which approximately 1,500 measles patients have been treated. By working with 270 community, MSF is also helping to build active testing capacity in the city, to detect measles cases and refer patients to appropriate care.
